Greetings from Karunalaya!

We have actually planned for the next phase ofrehabilitation for the tsunami affected people. Though we are making an elaborate plan, we are yet to finalise with the people. But till then as a first step we have ordered for 40 fibre glass boats to be distributed to the fishing community. These 40 fibre glass boats will benefit 800 families directly. The boats includes fibre glass boats, engine of 10 hp, nets and anchor.
Hope you might have seen the first boat in the picture from Loes. Once we pay the full amount the boats will be delivered by the 10th of April. Please see the budget plan in the attachment. If you can make the first instalment for the boats as soon as possible will be very helpful so that we can hand over the boats on the 13th or 14th of April (tentatively).
We are also making efforts to prepare a report for the relief phase of the project. It might take some more time, but will be sent as early as possible. Thank you very much for all the efforts you all are making to help the tsunami affected people and children. Our heartiest thanks to the Dutch People who generously donated to Stichting Karunalaya and Stichting Amaidhi for the tsunami affected people.

At present all the affected people from Powerkuppam, Pallavan Nagar and part of Anna Nagar have been resettled at a place 5 kms away from the sea called Kargil Nagar. nearly 2142 families are at present living in this place with many new problems. We are trying to assess the needs of the people and children. We already started providing 2 buses every day morning and evening to bring the children to school where they studied earlier before resettlement. Without these buses they would not have continued studies these 3 months. Governemnt has not provided buses for these children, and the area they have been resettled does not have buses often. They have to wait for a long time to get a bus, which is usually very crowded. They have to take an auto to be on time. Even our staff find it difficult to reach the area on time. We are also conducting nonformal classes for the children who do not go to school and provide noon meal for all of them about 150 children learn in the day time every day. We have appointed about 15 new staff for the field work. For Kargil Nagar alone 8 staff go every day being a big new area. We have hired a branch office at Kargil Nagar so that staff can report at that office every morning instead of reporting at Karunalaya head office. We still have to appoint some more staff for managing the project and coordinate the field work.
